Rights body frowns at Maharashtra chief secretary's "apathy" on trans persons complaint

The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission is taking action against the State chief secretary for not appearing before it regarding a complaint about discrimination faced by transgender persons. The Commission is considering penal action under section 166 A of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint seeks the implementation of The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 and awareness about the differences between Hijras and other transgender persons. The trust also requests the government to highlight these differences through physical and social media.
